Can I overclock this RAM?
Hi everyone! I'm checking if it's safe to boost this 2400mHz RAM to 3000mHz with a water cooling setup. What are the potential dangers?
You won't be able to reach 3000mhz. It's designed for 2400mhz and that's why. If you could hit 3000, it would justify the rating. You might manage 2666, but adjusting the timing would be necessary and it wouldn't be worth it. Intel CPUs don't scale well with fast RAM, so it's not really a good idea.
From a risk perspective, overclocking RAM is quite simple. I haven't ever broken any RAM from pushing it too high, so I don't see much concern there.

Why have I seen other posts trying to overclock their 2400 to 3200 and people say it can be done?
I'm just pretty confused right now to be honest, can someone clear this up please?
Thanks
Well, don't believe everything you read on the internet. lol
With that being said, I am quite sure there are times where people have gotten their 2400mhz RAM to run at 3200mhz. But those situations do not happen often. RAM prices have gone through the roof over the past couple of years and memory manufacturers have really tightened up their processes to squeeze every last dollar out of every last stick.
In the end, you have an Intel CPU. High speed RAM do very little for Intel CPUs. Here is a memory analysis of the 8700k. 3000mhz speed ram was less than 1% faster than 2400mhz. You will never see a difference in less than 1% fps in a game. There is a difference between 2133 and 2400mhz, but past that, the difference is very small. Even at 3866mhz, the difference was 2% from 2400mhz.
