Hi there, I have an Intel i7 5500U laptop and I want to speed it up by overclocking, but I'm not sure how safe that is. Here are my specs and any good advice from the community. Thanks in advance if you can see those images too.

You shouldn't try to make your Intel non-K processor go faster than its limit, especially for a laptop processor. In fact, I wouldn't suggest doing that at all because these laptops get too warm when they are used.

Hey, thanks so much! It wasn't even on my radar before. I'm looking for some advice to boost the CPU speed. My laptop runs super slow, and I have 8GB of RAM. Could it be that my hard drive is too old or just slowing things down? Even though my windows settings are set up right now, it still feels sluggish.

What makes a computer super slow? Starting the pc, loading apps, or just getting an SSD usually helps most of the time. But you still have to install Windows on that new drive first. I don't know your specific model or what kind of SSD would fit. Also, if your CPU is old, maybe there isn't even a place for a M.2 slot in your motherboard. Just do some research on which SSD fits your setup. Moving the windows and your main programs to an SSD is always a great way to get your older laptop running smoothly again.

I own a Lenovo e550 with 8gb of RAM, but my video memory and the processor are really weak. Yes, I want to upgrade my hard drive to an SSD, but I'm scared it might be too expensive since this laptop isn't very good in other ways either. Should I buy an SSD or just get a better computer instead? Sorry if you're confused by all these questions.

Sorry for bringing back an old thread. You'll think how fast an SSD makes a computer. My first laptop used an AMD Turion X2 with 4GB of RAM and ran Windows Vista; it's from years ago so it's not good anymore. With an SSD, it runs Windows 10 fine. It can't do much now except office work, but this shows just how much life a SSD adds to a system. CrystalDiskInfo can check your hard drive health. My E550 is about five years old, and since drives last 5-7 years, yours might be slowing down. If you buy an SSD and a USB-to-SATA adapter, you can clone the current drive onto the new one using something like EaseUs Todo Backup Free to skip reinstalling software or moving files. I have an SSD in my E550, and believe me, it's worth it. Maybe even make your system faster.

Hello, since I posted this thread I was actually thinking about getting an SSD and I finally did it two months ago. Installed a Samsung evo 860 but I took out the CD drive because it's useless now and put the SSD there while I kept my internal hard drive in its place. Now the system is much much better. But I'm thinking of increasing the ram from 8 to 16 gigabytes. Don't know if it's worth it with this laptop or not. I also broke my first hard drive which came with the e550 by playing a box match with my laptop... and it was gone. And this hard drive is the third one I have installed don't know how long this one will last lol
