You can overclock your CPU on an MSI A68HM-E33 V2 motherboard with an AMD A4-7300 APU, but it depends on the specific model and compatibility. Check the manufacturer's guidelines for your exact setup to determine if overclocking is supported and how to proceed.

I've noticed some refurbished GTX 960 units for about 100 dollars on eBay. Not perfect, but better than what's available. Also, yes, the CPU can be overclocked. However, that's not a recommended approach.

I don't believe dual-core models come with an unlocked CPU multiplier. Therefore, improvements from just the base clock speed would be limited. The motherboard isn't built for significant overclocking either. It's better to opt for a quad-core board instead. Here is the CPU compatibility list for the motherboard. You should likely find a more powerful quad-core option on sites like eBay at a reasonable price. Do you have a discrete graphics card or are you still using the integrated video?

the a8-6600k should function properly with your current setup. you likely won't need a new cooler, as it comes with one included.

jaydencavender :
how would the A8-6600K function and will my current cooler suffice or do i need a replacement? it comes with a heat-sink/fan for the 100W APU. your previous cooler from the A4-7300 is limited to 65W. the new model offers a quicker clocked quad core and a marginally better iGPU.
i suggest upgrading to a dedicated graphics card, though prices are quite high right now. can you tell me what you're aiming to enhance—graphics performance or multiplayer responsiveness?

I really want to be able to play Fortnite, but I also need to record videos in Minecraft, which is a CPU game. I used to plan to go with a GPU, but then realized Minecraft is actually CPU-based. So I started searching for suitable CPUs. I feel like I might be stuck with something like a 1050TI for Fortnite, and getting that CPU was my initial idea. But now I’m checking prices and I don’t have $200-250, and I’m not sure if I really need a mini or not (I think I do).

Yeah, the 1050 Ti prices are really high these days. The amount I paid $144.89 in June 2017 is now $277.64 from Amazon.
Thanks, Cryptocoin miners.
(But that 1050 Ti isn't great for crypto mining)
If you're facing issues with MC now, switching to a discrete GPU might give better results than your iGPU.
MC should work fine on an old single-core Pentium 4.
Fortnite is another matter, though.
It requires more CPU power.

i thought fortnite required more gpu power, not just cpu, and i’m not experiencing problems with mc. i usually get between 30 to 150 fps, but normally on the lower end i just want to be able to record, which would probably need around 300 fps consistently for smooth recording at 60fps. regarding the hardware, i’m wondering if a 1050ti mini is sufficient or if a standard 2 fan one would work better since i feel like a 2 fan unit wouldn’t fit.
