Can I overclock?
I'm curious about whether I can push my Ryzen 7 2700x to overclock with the MSI X470 gaming plus setup. I've connected it via the 8-pin CPU power connector but not the 4-pin one for CPU power 2. Does this setup affect performance?
The 4 pin exists for a specific purpose.
It provides additional power for overclocking and extra PCIe slots.
Your motherboard manual should specify when it’s required.
If your PSU includes a second 4 pin CPU ATX power lead, connect it as well.
You can experiment without the 4 pin connected; it should still function properly.
I might purchase a Molex 4 pin ATX power adapter and install it.
If your case offers space for an air cooler, I’d opt for a Noctua NH-D15s.
It would be more cost-effective, quieter, more dependable, equally effective in cooling, and wouldn’t leak.
Just make sure you're working with adequate airflow across the VRM heatsinks and inside the case(in general). You might also want to share what your ram's make and model is/are and what you cooler is?
