Try it? Or test with a multimeter. Or discard them—they cost just a few dollars each.

Give it a shot. A SATA cable functions or it doesn’t; there’s no middle ground.

Absolutely, those issues are common. Hundreds of CRC errors in your SMART data can really impact performance.
