Can I install an overclocked GPU on another machine?
I increased my GPU's speed and the PC it was installed on crashed. The motherboard suffered damage, but the GPU remained unaffected. With a new PC, I'm wondering if it will crash again and what steps I should take to undo the overclock.
Using MSI AfterBurner or EVGA Precision for overclocking won't leave any changes in your system. The only data retained is the GPU's BIOS/firmware.
AFAIK, overclocks on GPU are O.S bound, meaning they boot with stock speeds and the O.S. overclocks them then, so if its not fried it should work perfectly.
unless you managed to overclock the card on its own 'bios', but I've no knowledge about this so wait for more replies.
Different PCs use the same default configurations. Graphics drivers are managed through software, not hardware changes. Switching cards won't necessarily improve performance and is uncertain.
