I really prefer using a Z170 motherboard with a locked CPU instead of an H170 because the RAM I bought is DDR4 2400MHz and I want to make it run at its maximum. The RAM speed limit on the H170 was 2133MHz, so I chose a Z170 with a locked Skylake CPU for better performance. Is it okay to use a Z170 motherboard with a locked CPU? I’m not sure if it’s compatible with a locked CPU but I want the features of the motherboard.

The motherboard is okay. It only supports unlocked CPUs, that's all. No concerns

I possess a "locked" i5 6500 on my ITX Z170 board. It functions without issues.

Can we incorporate an unlocked CPU into motherboards lacking overclocking capabilities? Let me know.

Work should function properly, but verifying CPU compatibility on the manufacturer's website adds confidence. Most Skylake and Kaby Lake boards are compatible with all 6th and 7th Gen CPUs and the newest UEFI versions.
