Laptop model: Sony Vaio E Series N50 SVE151A11W This computer won't turn on right now. Only the power light and the hard drive light are blinking when I press the power button. Watch this video here to see what's happening directly. The screen stays black, and the keyboard lights never glow up. It comes with Windows 10 installed. Yesterday I changed my BIOS settings to use Legacy mode and set my boot order to start from the USB stick first, then the optical drive, and finally the main hard drive. I also turned off Secure Boot. I updated those settings so I could run Clonezilla to copy data onto a new disk. That worked fine for cloning the hard drive. But now it still won't start up. It doesn't boot from the USB stick or jump over to the HDD. The F2 key for BIOS doesn't work and takes me nowhere, even though I had to find another way to actually reach the BIOS menu. I tried to boot into Parted Magic on a USB but that didn't help either. Any ideas on how to fix this so it boots? Maybe there is a bad MBR? Do you need more details? I would like to run Spinrite 6.1, but that version isn't out yet.

First, take out your battery. Also, remove the battery for the motherboard and press the power button for 15 seconds. This helps drain all current. Then, even without any connection, short the motherboard's two battery pins together for about 5 seconds. After that, measure the voltage of the motherboard's batteries with a multimeter; if you see around 3 volts or more (not less than 2), then put the original batteries back in and power up the laptop. If it starts working normally, your BIOS was reset correctly. You can now access BIOS settings to manage options. Now try setting up correct boot choices and test everything again.

Here are the pins that I'm going to connect. Are you sure they look okay? Check the link on Google.

Here is a picture of those shorting wires. Do you think this will break out the CMOS power? Sony Vaio Battery Short Wire test.jpg It's hard to tell because they are so thin, but it looks like the battery voltage is around 2.3 Volts DC. Should I swap it out?

I fixed the cover, turned on the computer, and got a message saying "Operating System Not Found." The F2 key for BIOS won't work either. I put in my Clonezilla USB stick and it started up that way. Now I need to figure out how to get into the BIOS settings.
