I bought an old HP Elitebook G3 Core i5 laptop two years ago. After that, the screen had to be changed and the guy said he used a second-hand Dell FHD display. More recently, I swapped out the motherboard and upgraded the processor from the Core i5 to the Core i7-6600. Now that Windows 11 is installed, I'm going to install Ubuntu too. My questions are... Do I need to manually install drivers for my system? How can I find and install a display driver when I am using an HP motherboard but a Dell (according to the tech) screen? I know HP gives drivers on their website, but aren't those old because they are almost five or six years old? Thanks so much for your help. 😊

Do I need to install drivers manually? You mentioned changing motherboards, do you know which laptop this board came from? With that info or serial number/SKU, go to HP's website and look for a dedicated page for it. Even though HP has drivers on their site, they are probably old since the drivers here are almost 5 or 6 years old. If you swapped out your motherboard, those are definitely 5~6 years old too. 6th Generation Intel is seven generations behind what we have now, so I don't know what other support you'd expect from that old hardware.
