Can disabling anti-surge protection harm my computer?
Recently I've experienced unexpected shutdowns for "American Megatrends." The issue seems linked to ASUS anti-surge protection being activated. My maximum voltage is 12V, but it often drops to 11V. I found some discussions suggesting it's safe to turn it off, though I'm not an expert and unsure if doing so could harm my PC.
The nominal voltage in a computer should be 12V. Anything below 11.4 can still function. With a good power supply, it usually stays just above 12V most of the time. It seems to be related to BIOS settings, so turning it off shouldn't cause any damage. It simply means the system will remain active during minor voltage fluctuations instead of shutting down for safety. For added protection, using a line conditioner or UPS is recommended.
