Can a type C port accommodate an external OLED?
I own an ASUS TUF A15 laptop (model FA507 - R7 7435HS & RTX 4060) and intend to purchase an Asus Zenscreen OLED for use with it.
This portable screen is designed for 15 watts of power consumption and typically receives its power through a USB-C connection. I’d like the monitor to draw power from the same USB-C port that sends display data from the laptop, so I only need one cable.
There’s a USB-C 3.2 Gen2 combo port on my laptop that supports DisplayPort and seems capable of power delivery, though I’m unsure if it can handle output power.
I’m not sure how to determine what this port can provide. Can it support display signals and at least 15 watts over a single cable? How could I check this?
You can find your laptop's SKU on the manufacturer's support website; ASUS TUF Gaming A15 (2023) | Gaming laptops | ASUS Bangladesh offers this model with Windows 11 Home, an AMD Ryzen™ 7940HS Series processor, and up to a NVIDIA® RTX™ 4060 GPU. Visit www.asus.com for more details. If you use this information as a reference, the relevant page mentions that the port supporting power delivery can accept input but not output power. The thread has been moved from the Motherboards section to the Laptop Tech Support section.
I noticed nothing related to that on those pages, just that the ethernet port doesn't support Ethernet Power. After further research, it seems USB Type C Power Delivery is designed for two-way power transfer. Is this a standard feature?
