Can a Molex cable power the Sound Blaster AE-9?
Hi Guys,
I was really surprised to see no one online trying this. I purchased the system below and recently lost my power supply and motherboard due to an electrical spike. As of now, I don’t plan to buy another power supply. My issue is that the sound blaster is working perfectly, but the external device needed to connect an XLR microphone to the sound card (Dynamic Microphone SM58 Shure) isn’t turning on. The manual clearly states this add-on needs a 12V PCIe 6 pin connector, but my power supply doesn’t have any of those—though it had two, and they were used for my video card.
I do have one Molex cable available; technically, I have two more if I remove the mechanic HD, which I could get rid of if needed. I also bought a 1 to 1 Molex Male to 6 pin PCIe Female from eBay that fits the sound blaster, but I’m worried it might damage something.
Additionally, I purchased a Y 2x Molex Male to 6 pin PCIe card, which claims it provides more power because it uses two Molex inputs for one PCIe slot. Which one should I use? Any risks or advice? Please help!

It seems you were surprised to learn about the power supply option when purchasing the other parts. For your system, especially with the requirement of a 6-pin PCIe for the sound card AE-9, what advice would you like regarding the appropriate power supply?
