Determine if a water cooler is necessary based on your 4.2ghz overclock performance. Consider whether your Hyper 212 Evo is sufficient for the heat generated.
I need to find out what cooler is best for my 4.2ghz overclock. Should I buy a water cooler or is my Hyper 212 Evo sufficient? You should be able to figure it out. I already have a stable 4.6GHz on the 6600k with an EVO 212 using a 1.29Vcore. Each component behaves differently, but you should easily achieve 4.2 on the 6600k with the EVO 212.

you SHOULD be able to. I have a very stable 4.6GHz on the 6600k with an EVO 212 using a 1.29Vcore. Every piece of silicon if different, but you should easily be able to get 4.2 on the 6600k using the EVO 212.
Personally I use a water cooler to cool my cpu. Not that I am a crazy overclocker, I usually let my computer do auto overclock at 15%. Because I don't want to be limited on my choices by an air cooler. Also remember HEAT is the cpu's number one enemy. Although your evo will cool your cpu, will it cool it low enough all the time? I like my temps to stay in the 60's Celsius for longevity and I'm sure for mental reasons( cuz I'm crazy about cool cpu's lol).
The 212 Evo handles those OC models quite well with proper case ventilation. Keeping the case temperature low will make it even better at managing i5 or i7 overclocking tasks. Hope this helps.
