Originally, labeling it a beta meant it was the early version before the final release to avoid a broken game. The term was used to encourage players to report bugs that could be fixed without a demo. It helped fix issues quickly, saving money since only $5 was involved and no balance changes were needed. The main reason for fixes was the perceived quality of 3Arc compared to other companies.
This experience once more shows me how treyarch struggles to deliver solid coding in a game. Even though it carries the "Beta" tag, performance issues are rampant. World At War suffered severe bugs, Black Ops 1 performed okay at first but quickly dropped below 17 fps on my hardware, and I experienced connection problems. Eyefinity barely functioned at two-thirds speed. Black Ops 2 had its own set of challenges, especially with the graphics settings. Only one outer screen remained mostly black, yet gameplay was still present. Now Black Ops 3 feels nearly unplayable—frequent stutters, frame drops from 60 to just 5 at high settings, and it only runs smoothly on low settings. Despite its potential, these technical hurdles make it hard to enjoy. Even after updating drivers, I couldn’t get past the frustrating experience before.
