CAD issues with windows 10 PRO
I rely on Design-spark Mechanical 2.0 as my primary CAD tool, and despite having a GTX 980, the CPU seems to struggle with even basic designs. I’m curious if anyone knows how to set the preferred GPU for each program in Windows 10 PRO. I remember using the right-click option to select “run with graphics processor,” but it doesn’t appear to work anymore. Any advice would be really helpful.
I noticed my rig on my profile is a bit old. I'll update it soon, but for now: -i7 4790k -16GB HyperX Fury @1600 -ASUS Z97-A USB 3.1 -EVGA GXT980 SSC -EVGA B2 750W -Dark Rock 3 CPU cooler -ADATA SX900 128GB -Seagate Barracuda 1TB (sorry about that)
All resources are fully available at the moment, which equates to 4ghz (possibly incorrect)
I’m aware you might have done this already, but verify your CAD software is current (including the graphics). Make sure hardware acceleration is turned on in CAD. There’s a command that opens performance settings—search for it in your CAD version and follow the instructions. If it attempts to connect to integrated graphics via BIOS, disable them. You can also force GPUs using the NVIDIA drivers. Tip: use “force GPU NVIDIA.”
