I recently experienced frequent random shutdowns on my PC. To try and fix it, I reseated all cables and removed the GPU cable, finding that two pins were missing from the power connector. I’m unsure if this is the reason for the shutdowns, but I’m concerned about reinserting the cable and potential damage. My GPU is an ASUS Strix 4090 and the PSU is a Rog Thor P2. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Make sure to get a new cable. Also inspect the power supply and GPU just in case something gets damaged. If you're not confident, bring the 4090 to a repair shop to check the power connection. If it's burned, it may be covered under warranty—reach out to Asus for help. The 4090 can overheat because of Nvidia’s removal of certain safety features found in earlier models but not in later ones.

The 12vhp connector is known for its bad design, often melting if viewed incorrectly. It’s best to replace it and verify the GPU power socket as well.

The cable is outdated. Check the GPU closely for any signs of damage from the plug. You might have avoided this issue if you were more careful.

It might be due to the angle, but the bottom pins definitely appear much darker than the top ones.

Name verification looks good. The pins appear to have detached, which is typical for this type of connector. Inspect the GPU pins for any signs of melting. Be aware this could pose a genuine fire risk.

It seems the broken sleeve has successfully bonded to the plastic casing of the header.
