Hello, I purchased a CD album titled "The Fray: Scars and Stories" from eBay at a very low price. Others claim CDs offer better sound quality than MP3s or streaming platforms. Is this accurate? Since I didn’t see the CD’s specs, can I safely assume all tracks are at least 320Kbps? (Spotify only supports 160Kbps, and their Premium version sometimes gets stuck at that speed.) TL;DR: Are CDs generally better than typical MP3s? And should I trust the 320Kbps assumption? Thanks! EDIT: I own a Sennheiser HD439. Apologies for the unclear English.

CDs match the standard of MP3 files or streaming options. It doesn’t really matter.

Typically, CDs hold uncompressed recordings. When compressed, it usually results in a high-quality version near the original studio recording. Audio CDs generally feature uncompressed PCM stereo audio at 44.1 kHz with a 16-bit format. To record on an audio CD, export your desired files as 44.1 kHz 16-bit stereo WAV or AIFF files.

CDs remain uncompressed at 1440kbit/s, yet converting an mp3 into a master disc is straightforward. It functions similarly to a decoded mp3 file.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm glad to hear it. Just to clarify, I didn't purchase only heavily compressed MP3s; I also bought CDs with standard MP3 at 160Kbps.

Can we move these songs onto a USB stick? My computer lacks a CD reader, but my dad’s has it available.

Each CD costs between $5 and $20. Spotify offers it monthly for $12. One album on Spotify is available without limits. You can stream unlimited CDs on devices like tablets, smartphones, TVs, laptops, etc. The best option remains Spotify if you're focusing on audio.

I selected the song by right-clicking and choosing Properties, then Details, and reviewed the details. Placing the CD in the CD drive lets the PC scan and list the tracks automatically (probably Windows Media Player). I don’t recall this being available in Windows Vista.

Could you copy the files from the CD to a USB or other devices though?
