I'm preparing to purchase a thinkpad T15p gen 2 (11800h, GTX 1650) mainly for my auto cad course and emulator games such as rpcs3 Xenia. I'm curious about its performance, the thermal management, and whether the plastic components could impact its lifespan. Since there are no online reviews available, I'd really appreciate any insights you can provide. Thank you!

There are laptops made from plastic that have a limited lifespan, especially when used in varying temperatures or exposed to heat and cold, since plastic can become brittle. The model you're considering is well-made, but compared to others, it can last longer if you handle it properly, maintaining a cool environment and treating it gently.

Hi,
also been looking to buy a new Thinkpad for a long while now, with this being the frontrunner. I haven't got round to actually doing the purchase, but my current E530 is about 8 years old now, seen a lot and still running. The chassis was replaced at some point, although I didn't request it. My point is, the fact that it's made of plastic shouldn't be a problem. I take good care of my machines and this one had some minor issues with the case, but looking at its age, y'know.. 'tis fine.
The T15p and its stats are looking cool. My workflow includes some music production work, a bit of amateur-level Photoshop and Illustrator and I'd like to do some light gaming. Right now I don't have a proper GPU, since the motherboard was replaced 2-3 years ago and the spare part didn't have the chip. The reason for the repair was some sort of north or southbridge getting whacked, hah.
Anyway, my only disappointment right now is that currently they don't seem to have T15p gen 2 with i7-11850H available
🙁
I remember the first days when it was announced on their site, the slightly higher-end processor was there and I would've loved to get a model with that chip. Currently I'm waiting for the right moment anyway, not available yet where I live, but I hope the 11850H still makes it.. I don't understand why it's disappeared from the specs. Can anyone clarify?
All in all, I'm quite hopeful about this being a good workhorse for me so fingers crossed.

The only thing worrying me is the thermals since emulators are mainly CPU-based. I’m wondering if the single fan can effectively cool both the CPU and GPU simultaneously. I haven’t found any online tests evaluating this, so I’m eager to understand how the system handles continuous load for about an hour or two.
