Hello everyone,
I own an MSI GX680 and have been using it for gaming, video editing, and photo work. I’m considering an upgrade now. The market offers a wide range of choices from brands like MSI, Asus, HP, Alienware, Lenovo, and even Razor.
I’m unsure what to choose. I believe an Intel Core i7 or i9 with an Nvidia 3060 or 3070 would be suitable, but deciding on the best equipment is tricky.
I was considering a gaming laptop with a touch screen, though I’m not sure if it would work well for me. It should also be lightweight. My GX680 weighs about 4 kilograms.
When I search online for good laptops, I end up with too many options! I’m really confused.
My budget is around 1300 dollars.
Thanks for your help.

Gaming or performance laptops tend to be heavier due to larger screens and a more robust build. For those who need to transport them, there are backpacks designed for carrying heavy devices. You can begin with this setup and then look at prices compared to other brands.

Thank you for your reply. I know that laptops are now much lighter, even the gaming models. I’m aiming for a weight around 2 kilograms. This Alienware model is decent but quite pricey. Should I consider purchasing from Dell? What about MSI or Asus? My main focus will be on Adobe Premiere and Photoshop, so what GPU and CPU would be best for my device?

I can’t afford anything over 1300 dollars. In fact, I’m planning to buy something in the range of 1000 to 1300 dollars.

Thank you for your response.

Completely up to you, buddy. If you ask me it would be either Asus or Razer.

It's interesting how you're weighing options between MSI and Asus ROG. I understand your uncertainty about choosing between them. Regarding the touchscreen, it can be quite useful depending on your needs.

Sure, I can help with that. Please let me know what games you enjoy and the websites you typically use to purchase laptops. I’ll make sure to address your concerns about touchscreens adding weight and affecting screen quality.

I usually work with Adobe Premiere, Photoshop and Edius frequently. I also play first-person shooters such as COD or sports games like FIFA.
I believe a touchscreen could be helpful for Photoshop or Illustrator.
I don’t have a specific laptop in mind; I just search online.
I really value your assistance. I’m still undecided.

When using the cc versions of Illustrator and Photoshop, a touchscreen works well. However, you'll likely focus more on 360 convertibles since they offer better pen input compared to gaming laptops. If you don't use a pen, I'd advise avoiding it as your hand isn't as quick as a mouse. I would consider the Dell XPS lineup, as there were sales for it, along with Asus G14 or G15.

Consider purchasing an Intel or AMD CPU, and an Nvidia GPU. For the monitor, you might want to choose an Asus ROG or MSI model. You'll likely be using a CC version of Adobe products with a pen.

Do you prefer a gaming laptop or a pen-enabled one?
For gaming, AMD CPUs seem more suitable. The GPU choice depends on whether you need ray tracing, with NVIDIA being an option.
When it comes to premium professional use, Intel chips appear to be the preferred option.
MSI is a solid brand for gaming, though their productivity laptops often come at a higher price.
