Button fails to function and the computer refuses to start.
Last afternoon my PC was running smoothly. Then I added two fans and a tower cooler. After disconnecting everything, I removed the Intel CPU cooler because it was tricky to mount. I also unplugged the GPU and NVMe to PCIe card. Once the cooler was put together, I connected both 4-pin and ARGB ports, installed the fan, and managed the cables carefully. After wiring everything up—including the PSU, peripherals, and power cable—I turned on the system. But when I flipped the power switch and pressed the button, nothing happened. I tried reattaching the PSU cable, removing and reinserting the front panel header, and even unscrewing the casing fans, but it still wouldn’t respond. My motherboard is an MSI Mag B660M, which usually lights up when something’s wrong, yet it remained dark. I also tried reseating the 12ATX cable multiple times without success.
Set up the system beyond the case with only essential components for startup and retry.
I did using only the CPU cooler (tower), 1 stick of ram, and then plugging the 24pin atx and 8pin CPU. Still no response when I jumpstart it with the power button or with screwdriver. As if it doesn't receive electricity.
I realize the CPU wasn't taken out, but you made a couple of adjustments: you added the cooler's holding bracket and adjusted the pressure it applies to the CPU. This might influence the socket and contact.
I released all the brackets, checked the CPU, and confirmed the bottom surface is fine. The pins look normal too. I reinserted the CPU and connected the fan header without placing it over the processor. After restarting the PC again, nothing changed—fan isn’t spinning and the lights aren’t blinking.
Use the alternative RAM stick. Shut off all fans and RGB lights. Disconnect the cooler mounting hardware. Put a cooler on top of the CPU. Remove the GPU and attempt to boot by shorting the header pins.
Verify every power cord is securely connected fully. Occasionally connections may appear installed but only partially inserted. Focus directly on the 24-pin port. Also, listen for any faint noise from the PSU once you press the power button or test it by jumping it.
