Burnt out
I’m still navigating this transition, feeling like I’m reaching maturity in gaming. For my age, playing games isn’t cool anymore, and the newer titles don’t really capture my interest anymore. A few are catching my eye, but it’s getting less each year. Games seem to lack originality these days—mostly shooters, with even Halo falling into the same mold. The only fresh releases I’m excited about are not just reboots. I’m looking forward to The Witcher 3 (I upgraded my GPU for this), GTA 5 (maybe just for my girlfriend), and I’m planning to stick with GoG for my feeds. Older games still bring me joy, and the Grim Fandango Remastered should keep me entertained for a while. Nvn1/2 looks promising too. Like you did at 16, I once stopped gaming for months before getting hooked on Minecraft. Now I’m finding myself drawn back, though time and other responsibilities limit my playtime. Honestly, I’m tempted to use my Rpi for emulation and enjoy classic titles, and I’ll keep an eye on Steam, GoG, and Humble.
Zelda is an excellent game with great design, it has aged well. Personally, I’m more into Nintendo, PS1 titles, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Medieval, and GoG. Those classics aren’t available on PC because they weren’t ported. I also think you’re getting tired of new games that don’t live up to expectations—it’s been tough lately for gaming. Try a Raspberry Pi, experiment with tweaking, learn real PC skills, and build a retro arcade instead of stuck in the 90s or early 2000s.
I took a pause from gaming on my old Nokia N73, PSP2000, and laptop in 2013 while concentrating on studies and work. Now I’m seeking a break from work and diving back into games in the fourth quarter of 2014...the craving kept coming, and I’m falling back into weekend gaming sessions again. There’s a lot to tackle! Maybe enjoy a movie or series marathon—read many manga and anime, and even try actual books!
