The I3, I5, I7, and I9 no longer represent the same specifications they once did. Nowadays, many cores are present, and if hyperthreading is available. With the introduction of Efficiency cores, these labels now indicate a relative performance level within each generation. The two processors are comparable; the i5 is technically more powerful. Both have 20 processing threads. The I7-12700K boasts a passmark total rating of 34164 and a single-thread rating of 4049. The i5-13700K also features 20 threads, with a total of 38442 and a single-thread rating of 4187.
Would you like to know what I actually do on your PC?
If it’s just for simple tasks, I wouldn’t invest in something this powerful.
I’d probably choose an LGA1700, since AM5 is too costly for this kind of setup and AM4 isn’t outdated but won’t receive any new CPUs soon.
I’d opt for an i5 13400, a B760 board, 16GB RAM, and if you prefer integrated graphics for some visual performance, a GTX 1650 would be a solid pick. You could start with integrated and upgrade later if needed.
That’s assuming your main use is basic activities like browsing, emails, and writing documents.
For this scenario the mentioned specifications are more than sufficient, creating a very fast system that could last about 12 years if technology continues to advance at its past rate.
Hey everyone,
Thanks for the feedback.
As I’m not a gamer, I’m planning to upgrade to a reliable and contemporary PC for office tasks.
I’ll need documents, spreadsheets, and other work-related software that rely on videos, photos, streaming, online games, etc.
I’m considering 2 HDMI monitors—maybe 3—and will have multiple windows and programs open simultaneously.
I’ve updated my build list as follows:
