Building a new pc, which cpu to go for
Hey there, I'm seeking some advice. I'm planning to upgrade my gaming PC with something that can handle future games well. It's tough to predict what games will use next, so I want a balance of performance and longevity. I've been checking out these CPUs for their value: Intel i5-10600k, AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, AMD Ryzen 5 3600K. For the GPU, I'm not sure but aim for something around £400. I already have a current setup and think about using parts from my existing build: an i5-14100K CPU, GTX 1070 graphics, HyperX 212 cooler with two fans, XFX 650W PSU, Gold 4x4 1600mm RAM, and Asus Z97 Pro Gamer motherboard. I also need a new motherboard. Any suggestions would be great!
wait for ZEN 3 but if that's not possible, opt for Ryzen 7 3700X and B550 board so you can upgrade later when you need more power. you wouldn't get the 10600k even though it's slightly better than the 3700x in games—it has fewer cores and threads, which hurts performance on demanding tasks. it does perform better in games but isn't as future-proof as the 3700x. with a 3700x and B550 you can upgrade to Zen 3 later. with the Z490 board, though, you won't be able to upgrade to the latest Intel CPUs.
As the other forum participants mentioned, it's best to hold off until the upgrade is complete.
