Building a new PC for the 5090
I'm planning to assemble a new PC for the upcoming 5090 release and need some guidance since my last build was six years ago. I'm considering these components but have trouble finding a suitable motherboard. The CPU will be an AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D, the power supply is an ASUS ROG THOR 1200W with 80 Plus Platinum II, the cooling system includes a CORSAIR iCUE Link H150i RGB 360mm AIO with QX120 RGB fans, the RAM will be Corsair Vengeance 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 at 5200MHz, and I'm still unsure about the best motherboard options for this setup. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
This page lists the top gaming motherboards including X570, X670, and B650 models.
The only advice I can offer is to avoid trying to predict future technology; it’s far more effective to plan once the technology is already available for at least six months. Building a system around the next major release seems like a risky move.
You should aim for a setup tailored specifically for the 5090, ideally with the CPU released around the same time, to improve compatibility chances.
Combining the main components—CPU, GPU, and motherboard—when they’re more than a year apart increases the likelihood of performance issues and instability.
For RAM, prioritize low latency and higher speeds.
When choosing a motherboard, focus on long warranty periods, reputable branding, and performance optimization.
It makes sense to wait a considerable time after the 5090 release, so you can better assess what truly delivers stability and quality.
You'll reach diminishing returns rapidly, and costs will rise significantly too.
