You're curious about thin clients and whether they fit your needs. A thin client lets you run a lightweight application like GTA V from a laptop that's far away, so you can enjoy it on the couch without being tethered to the gaming PC. It’s a good option if you want flexibility and lower power usage.

It's referred to as steam in-home streaming. For remote play, try Hamachi and refer to this Reddit guide https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/...streaming/

I need a solution that covers your whole desktop, not just Steam games.

You can integrate notepad or your web browser as a Steam game, and then switch tabs using alt-tab.

Begin the specified application as noted by Fgtfv567, then switch tabs using alt-tab to see the full desktop. If you need to view the entire desktop without additional steps, here are a few options, though none are optimized for quick gaming sessions.

You might want to consider Chrome Remote Desktop. I use it on my phone to review downloads.

Do you understand what VDI stands for? If so, yes, it's feasible to use a thin client. Remote desktop won't function properly because it doesn't support 3D acceleration. This kind of setup demands substantial infrastructure.

Not to revive a dead topic but... https://moonlight-stream.org/ open source nvidia gamestream client. Works on pretty much everything: android, ios, ubuntu, chromebook, osx, windows. You can even run it on a work computer without installing it, and configure it to stream out of your home network.
