A few months back I purchased a custom-built PC running Windows 8.1 Pro. As Windows 10 is launching soon, I received a notification asking me to enter a product key for a free full version of Windows 10. I attempted various methods to retrieve the key but had no success. I’m hoping to get the full Windows 10 experience without switching back to Windows 8.1 Pro, which I’d rather avoid. Any assistance would be very much appreciated. Thanks, James.

You don’t need to enter a product key to upgrade to Windows 10. Probably a scam was involved.

You received a notification after opening the Windows 10 installation file, with an attached photo.

I purchased my PC from an unverified source. Please reach out to your system manufacturer regarding this issue. Your current key appears to be weak.

I purchased the machine from a used store named cash generators. The price was very reasonable considering its specifications. An AMD FX 8320 at 3.5GHz, octa-core AMD Radeon R7 260X, Sapphire edition 850 watt power supply, ASUS M5A97 R2.0 motherboard, and Windows 8.1 Pro? That sounds like a solid setup. The deal included a mouse and keyboard for £300.
