Hey there, fellow overclockers! I own an i5 9600K CPU paired with a Gigabyte Z-390 Pro Wi-Fi Aorus and a master air cooler. My RAM is 48GB (2400MHz and 3000MHz), and I've matched it exactly as needed for video editing and rendering cache. I haven't used XMP profiles, just manual tuning.

I recently pushed my CPU to 5GHz and 1.38V with AVX offset at 47 and LLC turbo. I ran two 10-minute Cinebench multi-core tests at different times—6 AM and 2 PM—and the room temps were around 14°C and 20°C, respectively. My scores ranged from 410 to 425 (non-OpenCore 250-280), but the temps spiked up to 91°C during the test. Under normal 1080p workloads, it stayed at about 72°C.

I did everything manually in Overclock without any instructions, just adjusting voltages directly from 4.8GHz 1.35V to 5GHz and 1.38V, keeping the temps around 88°C during testing. Are these readings concerning? Any recommendations for future OC tweaks?

Also, I attached a text file that logs data from an open hardware monitor (it’s not fancy software). The report shows detailed stats during Cinebench runs. I also played Valorant for an hour at 5GHz and 1.38V, with temps between 74-79°C, peaking at 80°C.

If your OC remains stable, staying under 100°C is acceptable. Naturally, lower temperatures are preferable and help maintain stability, though the CPU supports up to 100°C for TJmax. Reducing the OC slightly can help lower voltages and decrease heat. Based on my experience with a 9600K running at 4.8GHz and 5.0GHz, the performance differences were minimal—only about 4% in frequency, which doesn’t translate to a noticeable speed boost. A 5GHz boost is more of a theoretical improvement. Running OCCT would be beneficial to check for stability issues; it’s a better tool than Cinebench for detecting problems.

Updated: I achieved up to 5.2Ghz and 1.37v in the BIOS, but the real VRV output is 1.25v in OCX AVX Large for one hour. Maximum temperature reached 91°C with an average of 87°C—everything looks great. Significant performance boost in Valorant and SOTTR!
