Build For overclocking
Build For overclocking
Hello everyone,
thank you for your messages.
I’m looking for recommendations on a suitable motherboard for overclocking an i5-6600k.
I plan to use a water sealed cooler and have 16GB of RAM.
Could you let me know how long I might expect my PC to last for gaming after overclocking?
Appreciate your help, everyone.

Overclocking a 6600k isn't worth it because the extra cost for the k SKU, z170 MB and cooler outweighs the benefits. All that money would be better used to upgrade the GPU. Additionally, a Skylake i5 is more likely to hit only four threads before frequency issues appear.
Overclocking a 6600k isn't worth it because the extra cost of the k SKU, z170 MB and cooler outweighs the benefits. All that money would be better used for a stronger GPU. A Skylake i5 is more likely to struggle with only running four threads before hitting frequency limits. I’d prefer a better GPU, but my CPU is hitting high 90% usage percentages. Sometimes games like Overwatch stutter because of CPU bottlenecks. My current CPU is an fx-6300. I finally secured a job and saved enough for a solid CPU. I already achieve high 60s FPS in Overwatch on ultra, so that’s fine. Thanks again.
