Build failure detected – red and yellow LEDs illuminating the motherboard.
Hey, I just set up a new PC that’s not working properly anymore. Here are the details: Motherboard: MSI MAG B650 BIOS Version: 7D75v1I (latest) Operating System: Windows 11 Pro RAM: Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 (2x16GB) 6000MHz CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D GPU: NVIDIA RTX 2080 Super Drives: Samsung 980 PRO NVMe M.2 SSD (Windows drive), 2x SSD PSU: be quiet! Straight Power 12 850W AIO: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III 360 A-RGB Initially, I booted without the GPU and only the M.2 drive. After installing Windows 11 Pro and updating chipset drivers and BIOS, the startup took a long time—about 75 seconds. Once the red and yellow LEDs stayed on for nearly 30 seconds before the real boot started, I looked up the problem. A Reddit thread mentioned checking the "Memory Context Restore" setting in BIOS and another suggested enabling "PowerDownEnable." Since I couldn’t find that second option, I just turned on the first one, which cut the boot time to 15 seconds. After moving the GPU and two extra drives, re-seating RAM, and rebooting, the PC restarted repeatedly until Windows Repair tried again. Eventually, I went into BIOS, disabled "Memory Context Restore," and waited about half an hour before it stopped showing LEDs. The fan spun but nothing changed. Now I’m stuck—no screen display, BIOS won’t load properly, and I can’t get a stable boot. Anyone have any ideas on what might be wrong?
Seems like you're dealing with a RAM training loop and need to reset the CMOS.
Reset the CMOS only the Yellow LED worked, but nothing changed. Fans continued spinning, the Yellow LED stayed on while no other changes occurred. During the second boot, both Red and Yellow LEDs turned on again. I spoke to someone soon—just reset the CMOS once more and managed to enter Windows now. It seems the issue persists. Thank you!
Thanks for the update from @PDifolco. The system is now running again, but I'm still facing the same problem—boot times are still around 75 seconds. I believe the issue stems from XMP not being enabled; when it is, the boot time drops to just 15 seconds. I’m considering turning it back on, but I’m worried it might cause further complications. The XMP profile I used was DDR5 at 6000MT/s with voltages of 30-36-36-76 and a 1.400V supply.
Decide your method: 75 seconds boot with memory training or MCR with potential issues—no clear explanation available, perhaps Buildzoid offers guidance.
Consider sending the existing RAM and selecting a different one instead. You're still within the return window. If you decide to proceed, here are some suggestions: what should you look for when choosing a new RAM? Also, how can you connect to Buildzoid? I’m not sure about him yet.
I attempted to check the RAM using the "Windows Memory Diagnostic" tool. The problem remains unchanged: no display image, red and yellow LEDs flashing for 30 seconds during startup, followed by silence with only fans running. It appears instability increases once XMP is activated. Clearing CMOS and testing without XMP might be necessary. Replacing the motherboard would require rebuilding the PC, while swapping RAM seems straightforward in the short term. I can return within a few days. Running memtest86 now could help. (Without XMP enabled if you prefer...) Any advice would be appreciated! EDIT: Considering switching to this RAM: https://www.amazon.de/Kingston-2x16GB-60...4T9M/?th=1 This should work fine? 5200MT/s is a safer option. It's EXPO
If your RAM doesn't perform at its advertised XMP rate, consider giving it back. For AMD, the top choice is the GSkill Trident 6000CL30 Buildzoid, which features a YT channel—Hardware Overclocking support. You should locate his contact information there.
