I'm enjoying the game too! I'm at level 38 on my destroyer. I wanted to check out how my new rig performs on Max settings. Around 20fps with clusterfuck in faction PVP is decent, especially with 40+ players on screen fighting for Blackwyrm or just farming spots. In regular raids (24man, 6man, 4man, towns, etc.), I expect over 60 fps. I might add a Sweet FX preset to make things look nicer.
60fps in the arena means I expect the level cap stays at 45 for NA. Once you hit 50 and enter the level 50 PvP, things slow to 20fps when everyone gathers. At full intensity, it drops to 10fps as everyone starts fighting. The Destroyer has one fewer doge skill for the endgame ice Yeti.
We're still at the 45 cap, but we're seeing improvement around the 10th. BSH, HM +5 and Mushin tower 1-7 are working well. I really enjoy the FPS in Arena, though I'm a bit worried about the 20 fps drop. Maybe I'll dial down the settings during those moments, laughing it off. I'm hoping to reach at least 970 or higher during those times!
They're not going to make it with the 970. The real issue is the CPU. Make sure you push it to its limits.
what you own and observed at friends' locations: i7, geforce 970 [max settings] - smooth performance at 60fps everywhere, except during intense scenarios with over 15 players. i7, radeon 6850 [auto settings] - stable frame rates around 45-60fps most of the time, dropping to 20-30 in dungeons with smaller groups. i5, radeon 6670 [auto settings] - consistent 25-40 fps generally, even in crowded parties; 960p should work well at 1080p with auto or high settings, though lower resolution might require max settings for optimal play. The game seems reasonably optimized compared to tera and black desert (tested the Japanese version). Performance tends to lag under heavy crowds, which is normal.
Sure, I can try tweaking the settings to boost performance without sacrificing too much visual quality. There are several options to explore—adjusting graphics profiles, reducing shadow detail, or lowering texture resolution. Also, checking if any background applications are using resources could help. BDO is indeed a solid choice for optimized performance on older hardware.
You should anticipate 60 on auto modes and drops to 30 during group play, especially in competitive situations.
the i7 handles bns well enough since it's a CPU-intensive game, letting me use my GPU most of the time. putting an SSD can speed up loading times, and fast internet speeds would really help too. in final fantasy 14 i tend to load faster than others, especially with two SSDs in raid 0, but sometimes i lag behind compared to friends.
