Hello everyone, as mentioned in the title, I’m planning to upgrade my PC because most games I play only reach around 70/80 FPS, which feels choppy and causes stuttering. The issue seems linked to low frame rates rather than just fluidity. I mainly play first-person shooters, with a focus on MW2 and BF2042.

Currently, my setup looks like this:
- GPU: 1660 Super Pegasus
- CPU: i7-6700k
- RAM: Vegeance 16GB (8+8)
- MMO: Asus H170 Pro Gaming
I use a Corsair 800W PSU from 2018. My RAM is DDR4 dual-channel. According to CPU-Z, my DRAM speed is 1064 MHz and the uncore is 3990 MHz.

In February I posted on the forum about possible upgrades, but I was limited by budget. Now I’ve thought of a few options and would appreciate your advice: is upgrading these parts a good idea? Also, what kind of FPS improvement can I expect after making these changes?

New components I’m considering:
- MMO: Gigabyte B660M GAMING X DDR4
- RAM: G.Skill Aegis DDR4-3200 16GB (2x 8GB CL16)
- CPU: Intel Core i5-12400F
- GPU: RX 6600 8GB

Also, could you let me know if any of these components are incompatible with each other? I’m not an expert, just a passionate PC user. If you have suggestions for alternatives within my budget of around 500–600 euros, that would be great!

The precise power supply unit is the 800W model Corsair produced, which hasn't been made since more than ten years ago.

Actually, I won't be at home for the next two days, so I can't really confirm. But I'm certain it was purchased in 2018. The only thing that bothers me is whether it's a 600w or 800w model. I'm really sorry for this inconvenience.
Hopefully this isn't crucial to know if my build will work well! I was going to place the order today so I can start assembling on Monday.

The most important part to understand is there. If it wouldn't have been suitable for the old PC, even without visible issues, it shouldn't be used in the new setup. The challenge here is that the only Corsair PSUs at 600W or 800W that are both reliable and fairly recent are the Corsair SF 600s. The GS PSUs are quite outdated, while the VS option isn't recommended and the CX 600 is also not ideal.

if you're using an 850w psu it's fine, but 600w might be too low for spikes etc. I believe everything listed works well except for the 6600 i would prefer an ARC770 16gb if possible and a 750w psu at least.

Why the 16gb and spend extra 40 to 50 USD? 8gb is more than enough for 1080p. I also recommend the Ryzen 7600 and B650 combo with 6000mhz CL36 ram kits, just in case you want to upgrade later.

because 8gb is a waste really; at least 16 gives you some life span.
agreed, OP says he’s playing just a few titles, but if he decides to invest in a more modern game, that extra 40 to 50 usd will be better spent on a more Vram card!
i agree with the 7600 b650 – make sure you get a b650e with the pcie 5.0 x16 slot costs more, but most cards will be pcie 5.0 next gen.
the down side is, why i didn’t mention the cpu is 12400 b660 ddr4 – not my go-to either, honestly, it’s a waste but cheaper than the AM5 platform and OP is on a budget!
i’m building a 7700 6800xt for a friend and I took the higher-priced rog strix b650e board for the pcie 5.0 x16 slot.
lots of the cheaper b650s still use the 4.0 x16 slot, i realized!
maybe overthinking, but (and for the same reason) i spent big on my rog crosshair x670e gene – i planned to keep this board till AM6. these things help; not saying everyone can and should spend a lot, but being retroactive when buying and checking small details can save money later on!

the A770 struggles to handle 1440p smoothly without significant lag, and I don’t think any game exceeds 6gb in ultra settings at 1080p. even with modifications, it rarely goes past 8gb for 1080p. I’ve noticed modders with Skyrim or Witcher 3 experiencing severe slowdowns, but they usually rely on 4k texture packs for 1080p—mistakes seem to come from the user, not the game or mod. And when you turn on FSR or XeSS, GPU memory consumption drops even more...
