If you're okay with DDR4 RAM, you can easily find a much cheaper older z690 board. The AsRock PG Riptide costs as little as $125. In terms of features, the Gaming X doesn't really stand out and might even be a bit lacking. I'd prefer the Aorus Elite X WiFi7 or the UD AC.

I don't disagree with that. From stuff I've seen there's not a lot of difference with ddr4 3600 vs some of the ddr5.
It might take around 4 to 5 years before DDR4 becomes really outdated. Perhaps even longer. One of my PCs still uses DDR3 RAM, and that's not the main issue—it's a gen 3 i5 3750K, which is nice but quite old.
But if you're considering DDR5, it's okay as long as latency stays at 32. The real challenge is finding the right motherboard. NVMe Gen 5 support isn't much help, though it will increase the cost.
Asrock Z690 Extreme is a DDR4 motherboard featuring Bios Flashback, priced at $130. For an Intel build using DDR4, this board would be the ideal choice. Choosing this model would support a 14700k processor and 64GB of RAM, eliminating the need for future upgrades.
