Build Advicebuild feedback
Hi
I'm preparing some research for a new gaming build that mainly uses my RTX3060ti. The parts I'm considering should work well together and offer good performance while keeping costs reasonable. I'm focusing on overall compatibility and value for money, especially with the CPU, motherboard, and other essentials. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

I assume you already own the 500GB 980 Pro? It doesn’t seem necessary unless you intend to handle a lot of large file transfers. I’d recommend a 2TB SSD with DRAM cache and PCIe 3.0 or 4.0, especially for gaming. The motherboard might be a bit pricey—what makes it worth the cost? It’s available on Amazon for $200.
The system uses two SSDs for better performance and reliability compared to a single 2TB SSD.
only reasoning for getting two ssd drives is for having a smaller dedicated ssd for OS, i gather you suggest this is unnecessary?
what SSD would you recommend instead?
as for the motherboard, no particular reasoning behind that choice, simply need a good MB that would be up to par with the GPU and CPU combo
In that case, I agree, a single 2TB SSD is better suited, nothing wrong with the 990 Pro, though there are cheaper drives. You have a limited number of M.2 slots, no need to go for smaller drives. When you run out of space you can get another 2TB or even 4TB drive rather than having the hassle of replacing smaller drives.
Well don't overpay for that board. It is fine at $200.
Might also recommend DDR5 6000 CL30 as a better middle ground memory speed to target. Also 6400 CL32 that is quite often reasonably priced.
Consider verifying the fan count before finalizing. The setup will be modest.
You can opt for more affordable power supplies, but the RM750x remains a solid mid-range option. Just ensure it fits your needs without needing a 450W GPU.
Other chassis exist, but you’d likely need to replace the PSU (since connectors are on the sides). I usually avoid extra suggestions unless the case provides good airflow.
I have a preference for having distinct drives—one dedicated to the operating system and another for gaming. It seems your current setup is experiencing significant overspending, which limits performance even with the same budget.

A build with separate sections for OS and games works well. Your spending here could be better directed for improved results.
I checked yesterday for options, the most affordable with flashback was $160, B760 board. The cheapest DDR4 with flashback was $215, highlighting where price focuses at the lower end. Z790 for $200 is acceptable. Aorus Elite AX is also available if you're considering a 14th gen chip. The 14700K offers four additional e-cores and cache.
