A suitable budget motherboard for your Xeon X1231 V3 CPU is the ASUS ROG Strix Z590M or similar mid-range models. You can definitely use regular RAM with it, as long as the motherboard supports standard DDR4 or DDR5 modules.

Any LGA 1150 socket will suffice. Non-exclusive RAM will also function properly.

I stored some chips for a while and tested them on a B85 and a Q87 ASUS board. I’m planning a BIOS update since those refresh chips are available.

Looking for boards without needing a BIOS update? Check out those that are stable and long-term supported.

The second generation boards, like Z97 and H97, don’t require the update, though it isn’t inexpensive. Also, why would an older chip attempt to adopt something newer unless it’s very affordable?

Affordable B85 and H81 boards have been reliable for my haswell projects before.

You're facing a tough situation with your FX-8350. It's been working for four years at 4.8Ghz, but now it's not stable and the performance has dropped significantly.

I owned both of those chips; the upgrade isn’t huge. Personally, I’d save a bit more for a newer model, such as an entry-level AM4 setup.
