I'm thinking about connecting my 4-bedroom house with the living room, but I want something affordable. I'm aiming for a general idea of the cost if I go all in.

Essentially you need a 2.5G switch, LAN cables, and a card at each end. A budget switch costs about 100-300 USD, while affordable cards range from 15 to 50 USD. You’ll also require a router for the DHCP server; it doesn’t have to be 2.5G, probably you already own one. The setup flows like: Internet → Router → Switch → PCs (all on the switch) → Router → PCs (via 1G).
