PSU I own some decent units with PCIe ports. The only change in RAM capacity is due to CPU limitations. I plan to boost it to at least 8GB, possibly up to 16GB. He’d probably enjoy gaming—mainly casual titles like Minecraft—and also likes strategy games. Right now I’ve got Doom (1993), Fallout 3, Diablo 2 and Starcraft installed. A few of the older titles remain solid. An SSD is definitely in the works. In the worst scenario, he might still have his old Q9300 C2Q system. I really appreciate keeping vintage hardware running smoothly. The Q9300 was my first setup, upgraded over time: starting with 4GB RAM and a GT250 from MSI, then moving to 560Ti, 760, and eventually the current configuration of an i5-4690K, ASRock Z87, 16GB DDR3, and a 980Ti.
I purchased an R9 270x for 56 euros and considered a Ryzen setup. I discovered a Ryzen 5 1400 with AB350 Gaming for 140 euros, which would only require adding some DDR4 RAM.
