Hello everyone. I recently assembled a PC (parts were free) for my son. It’s an Athlon 64 x2 4800+ (still in use), equipped with 4GB DDR2 and an Asus 560ti. It performs well on a brand-new Windows 7 64-bit system. While there are other local options that might be better, I’m curious about their value. I discovered a full build featuring an i5 750, Asus P7P55 LX, 4GB DDR3 1333, a 1TB HDD, ATI Radeon HD5770, and an LC Power LC6550—all for just 100€. If I acquire it, I’d consider adding the 560ti or a newer i5 760 (using what I already own) along with an SSD of 128GB. Would that be worth the price? Locally, there’s an i5 4670 setup with 8GB DDR3 on a Gigabyte GA-H87-D3H, but it lacks an HDD and a GPU, paired with a Bequiet Straight Power E9 400W for 150€. What do you think? I’m on a tight budget since I’m unemployed, yet I want to give my son a meaningful first PC.

He son is looking into what he’ll use the setup for; it’s worth getting at least 8GB RAM. Cheap used parts can often save money if you assemble them yourself, though that varies. The case isn’t crucial as long as it allows good airflow. A budget build can work with any 80+ PSU from a reputable brand, but a solid storage drive is essential—an SSD is ideal for the operating system. Proprietary boards can complicate things, so opt for a standard retail board if you can. You’ll want at least a quad-core 64-bit CPU like Core 2 Quad Q6600 through Q9650 based on budget, and a GTX 560TI or GTX 760 should suffice.

As an OEM, I wouldn't do it since they usually control their own wire layouts.

Understood, though 1650 seems too expensive and 570/580 offers a better deal.

They require a PCI cable, but it's not always available with these budget power supplies

It should be upgraded the PSU no matter which GPU is installed.

We focused on creating a system using common parts, avoiding specialized or aftermarket items that often have fewer hardware options and upgrade possibilities.
