Hi there, back again.
Gigabyte GA-F2A78M-D3H motherboard with 32gb RAM
AMD A6-6400K APU paired with Radeon
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super
Running Windows 10
Yesterday my Brother HL-2240 was working perfectly. Now it's giving vague errors. I attempted to troubleshoot, but nothing worked. The print queue cleared, yet the issue persisted. It simply displayed: "Error, cannot print."
The printer has ink, paper, and no errors on its side. Toggling on/off didn’t help. I tried updating drivers, but nothing changed. I uninstalled and reinstalled it, yet it refuses to recognize the device—showing "Not Connected" even though it is connected.
I also tried adding a new printer, but it doesn’t appear or show up on the network.
This machine has been reliable for over eight years, with no problems until now.
What could I be missing?
Thanks for your time.

Did you remove the drivers, keep the connection active, and then restart the system? Also, would it help to boot into the desktop, uninstall the driver, and then quickly connect the USB to check if Windows recognizes it?

It functioned after the restart! I was a bit doubtful when it first loaded without an internet connection, but that’s better than before.
Indeed, it does work now.
Do you know the reason for this?

Not completely certain about the reason. Could have been affected by a Windows update or a damaged driver file, etc.
Happy to assist and it seems to be working now 👍

Said too soon. It's happening again. I'm planning to trace the cables.

Did you attempt the connection/reboot approach previously? I'm guessing so. Have there been any recent updates on your PC regarding the issue resurfacing?

Another usb port on the motherboard might work, check if it's detected, then remove the driver and restart.

I did, yes and no change.
It didn't work until I changed the cables. I discovered my old cable had a crack in the signal booster's body. Could that have been the reason? I'd used it for five years without any problems before.
However, I discarded it and replaced it with a shorter one, and it appears to be functioning now.
