Brand new PC build and every game i play crashes to desktop ?
Hello everyone!
A few days back I assembled a brand new PC and I’m facing quite unusual issues, becoming quite worried.
Here are the specifications:
CPU: Ryzen 7700x
RAM: Kingston Fury 32GB 6000mhz EXPO certified
GPU: PowerColor RX 7900 XT 20GB HELLHOUND
Storage: Kingston KC 3000 nvme 1TB (Windows 10) and XPG GAMMIX s70 2TB for gaming
Cooler: Deepcool Zero Dark AK620 air cooler
Power Supply: ASUS ROG 850W Gold
Monitor: LG 2K 27GP850
My problem is quite odd – every game I launch crashes to the desktop. I used to run a stable old PC without any issues, but now even simple tasks are unstable except for games. I’ve tried most fixes I could think of and found some online solutions, yet I’m growing increasingly anxious.
My first install was Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, which crashes every 1-2 minutes. I assumed it was a buggy game, so I tried Witcher 3, which also crashes after 3-4 minutes. Now I’m concerned. Then I installed MechWarrior Online, and it lasted about 20 minutes before crashing too. Fallout 4 does the same after a few minutes.
I ran several stress tests – Cinebench, MemTest86, FurMark, Heaven Unigine – everything worked perfectly. The BIOS is up to date, drivers are fresh, and the chipset is current. I even reinstalled Windows from scratch, and it functioned normally.
Something unusual caught my eye: in Jedi Survivor, the cursor on the main screen becomes pixelated and distorts, almost like artifacts. I’ve captured an image showing this effect:

I also noticed the GPU might be the culprit. Could you please advise what else I should check or do?
I paid a fair price for this setup, and in my country everything is quite costly. This issue really worries me.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that I turned off all overlays from Steam, Afterburner, etc., but it still doesn’t help even after closing other applications. I didn’t notice high temperatures – CPU stays around 60°C during games and GPU also stays near that level.
EDIT 2: My screen flickers when opening the web browser (EDGE), and the RGB on the keyboard sometimes glitches, though it’s barely noticeable.
Thank you in advance!
Check the Reliability History/Monitor and Event Viewer.
Both tools might record error codes, warnings, or event details just before or during crashes.
Possible heat issues are present. The system functions normally initially, becomes hot, crashes, then cools down or restarts, then heats up again in a loop.
Thermal paste: what type was used and how was it applied?

General advice:
Power off, unplug, open the case.
Inspect everything by sight and touch—ensure all connectors, cards, RAM, jumpers, and case connections are securely positioned.
Avoid forcing anything, especially on a new PC.
Gently reposition each component several times; you might notice improved stability and a more solid feel.
Take your time and use a bright flashlight for a thorough inspection.
Hello and thank you for your reply. I came across a message in the reliability monitor during a Witcher 3 crash, which reads:

Unfortunately, I don’t understand the meaning.
I didn’t see any overheating in afterburner or hwinfo. CPU and GPU readings were around 60%.
I applied Arctic MX 4 paste evenly across the x pattern.
I replaced my GPU today; everything else appears normal and correctly installed. Luckily, this isn’t my first PC build, so I have some experience, but I’ll try this if all else fails.
Could there be another tool I should use to test my PC that I might have overlooked for RAM or GPU?
Also, I updated my original post with an image that could be useful and includes new information.
Thank you!
Reinstall Witcher3
Possible corrupted files detected.
Execute "dism" and "sfc /scannow".

Hello once more. The scan detected issues and fixed them, so my cursor in Jedi Survivor now appears normal. However, the game still crashes. Recently, when Jedi Survivor crashed, I encountered a BSOD and before it disappeared, I could see a message in the bottom left corner saying "ATTEMPTED TO WRITE TO RANDOM ONLY MEMORY" or something similar. Fortunately, I found a discussion about a similar problem with OCCT in a stress test thread. I ran OCCT and performed a RAM test, and after a few minutes I noticed over 6000 errors. The program was stuttering heavily, and I only managed to halt the test briefly. I then checked the VRAM, CPU, and Power usage within the same app, which passed all tests except RAM. I’ll check again today to see if the RAM sticks are correctly installed, but I’m not sure it will make a difference. I’ll update once I resolve the issue. If anyone has suggestions, please feel free to share them. Thank you!

RAM configuration could vary; possibly 4 x 8GB or 2 x 16GB. Check if the kit matches dual-channel requirements. Consult the motherboard's User Guide to confirm supported settings and installation rules. For the latest updates, refer to the manufacturer's official site."
Sorry, I was meant to describe a 2*16 GB RAM kit, a motherboard-compatible kit for dual-channel use with slots slotted in A2/B2 as specified in the manual.
I noticed a way to fix a similar issue by lowering the max PBO frequency boost. Details are available here: https://forums.
Interesting. Did you manage to have a normal session playing demanding games without any crashes? I observed that my CPU would boost up to 5.5GHZ on single or multiple cores while playing games.
I’ve been testing various setups, like using a single RAM stick and still experiencing crashes even with just one stick. On one stick I could play for about 30 minutes before it crashed, while on the other it would crash every 2-3 minutes depending on the game.
I also replaced my CPU, but that didn’t help either. I restored everything as before and ran OCCT, which generated many error reports. TestMem5 also showed RAM errors.
I brought back my old PC and plan to swap out the GPUs. On my current machine I have an RX 580 with 4GB RAM, so I’ll check if that makes a difference.
I’m almost convinced it’s a RAM issue—about 80% of the time—and 20% on the motherboard, but we’ll find out for sure. The reason I think this is related is because in Reliability Monitor when Witcher 3 crashed, I saw the error: Exception Code: c0000005. I looked up that code and it confirms a RAM problem.
The worst part is that fixing this process is so time-consuming and I can’t seem to resolve it.
🙁 At least I hope you’ve fixed all your issues.
I faced a comparable problem with games failing on a brand new PC and also began with Jedi Survivor. Playing Deus Ex Mankind Divided caused similar crashes from time to time. The viewer also reported the same error during these crashes:
dxgi_error_device_hung
The solution involved adjusting the PCIe Gen setting in the BIOS to AUTO, Gen4 or Gen3. After this change, Jedi Survivor stopped crashing, although it still occurred less frequently.
