I bought my RAM from Microcenter three hours away, close to my 7950X3D project, and they gave me the Intel Ready XMP profile instead of Expo. My motherboard is an MSI ACE 670E. Will it work with this setup? What would be the performance at 30 CL and 6000 MHz?

It should work fine. XMP configurations can be tricky, but it shouldn’t cause major issues. DDR5’s speed is impressive by itself, so the gap between the slowest DDR5 and mid-range DDR4 models won’t be noticeable.

Thank you for your message. I don't feel the same way about driving to Atlanta again for a while. It's just too far for $124.

However, adjusting the XMP timings might require significantly more time than simply acquiring it. While it could function, many users have found it challenging to get XMP timings correct for AMD, which is why EXPO was created.

I've only used XMP in my systems before this switch, and it's not as significant as some believe, particularly on non-Zen or Zen+ platforms.

You're asking if someone who purchased a 6000 CL30 should simply run it at JEDEC speeds, since losing 10% of performance isn't a big deal. For a 7800X3D it would be less noticeable, but the absence of a none V-Cache chiplet in the 7950X3D could cause a noticeable slowdown due to reduced memory speed. It's unclear how other workloads would be affected, but in gaming without a v-cache, the difference between the 7950X and 7950X3D is likely minimal since games mainly use the v-cache. Most people don't buy top-end CPUs to sacrifice any performance, and AMD has confirmed the 6000MT is ideal. The EXPO feature was developed to help with timing, and newer BIOS updates are more stable for Ryzen 7000. While XMP profiles aren't as reliable, they haven't shown the same issues as before. It's risky unless you're certain the manufacturer will accept a return of faulty RAM if problems arise.
