Sure, I’d also consider testing the GPU on another machine first. Or maybe borrow a different one from a friend. I’m not sure if removing the CPU would still matter if core limits aren’t helping much. It’s close enough, but not identical. I’ve also thought about trimming RAM or taking out some sticks to see how it affects performance, though I have no idea what impact that might have.
I have limited time on weekdays for troubleshooting, but I’ll definitely test your suggestions over the weekend. I’ll replace the GPU with another (1080) and check if performance drops significantly or FPS decreases noticeably. This should help determine if the issue is GPU-related. If it’s worse, I might try removing some RAM to see if that improves things. Otherwise, I’m unsure what’s causing the problem.
I haven’t spent much time this weekend experimenting. This weekend I plan to test swapping the GPU and reducing RAM usage. I just wanted to check if connecting the GPU to the PCIe slot affects performance.
It does, though only slightly. The effect relies on the number of PCIe lanes available, such as x16 or x8. Here are two reviews by TPU: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/nvidi...s-scaling/ and https://www.techpowerup.com/review/pci-e...rx-5700-xt. In general, PCIe speed and lane count have minimal influence.
