Bottleneck 15 4460 Vs 1060 6gb
Currently, I’m using a system with a GTX 960 and an Intel Core i5-4460 (3.2 GHz) with 16GB of DDR3 RAM from 2018. A newegg promotion offers a GTX 1060 with 6GB for $300. Due to my budget constraints, I can’t upgrade the processor just yet.
I'm wondering if purchasing this GTX 1060 and combining it with my i5-4460 would result in noticeable performance improvements. I recognize that my CPU frequently reaches 100% usage in games like Star Citizen, and I understand that bottlenecking will vary depending on the title. Will the GTX 1060 alleviate some of the strain on the CPU, particularly in demanding games such as Star Citizen? Or would I observe minimal or no performance gains? I primarily play open-world survival games.
I'm trying to assess whether this upgrade is worthwhile. I’ve always felt that upgrading my CPU should be the initial step, but this GTX 1060 deal is exceptionally attractive, and I worry that my current processor will limit the card's potential, potentially yielding no performance benefits in certain games. My goal is to achieve a consistent frame rate of 40-60 FPS while gaming.
