What level of detail? At 1080p it's fine, but only obvious if you're using very high refresh rates. At 1440p it might be slightly clearer, still not obvious except under extreme settings. In 4K it's quite smooth without any noticeable strain.
Typically it won't work at 1080, but a higher refresh rate helps. A more powerful CPU, especially with higher IPC, improves performance. Going to 1440 or 120 refresh rates works better than lower ones.
Right now I own a 1080p display running at 144 Hz, and I’m considering upgrading to a 1440p screen at around 165 Hz.
