Running at ultra 1440p on a 2070 Super feels great, especially with 40-60fps. The CPU stays idle around 25-30%, while the GPU handles everything smoothly at 100%.

On Ultra and with Hardware Unboxed enabled, my i7 8086k/2080 and 8086k/1080 Ti performed consistently, using around 40% or less of CPU resources. The GPU remained nearly at full capacity most of the time. My target was achieving an average of 120fps when using the Hardware Unboxed configuration with the 3000 series graphics card.

Hardware Unboxed released a detailed two-part video series exploring RDR2 settings, offering tips for achieving smooth framerates while maintaining good visual quality. It’s definitely worth watching.

The GPU seems to be the key factor here. I'm currently using 5GHz on my 8086k with the Strix OC 1080ti at 1440p resolution, and with HU settings I'm achieving around 45-75 FPS. It's unclear if running a benchmark would produce similar results. I plan to test it now. Would the additional 100 clock speed provide that much extra performance?

Sure, I can help with that. Just remember, optimizing the GPU in the OC edition usually offers limited gains.

The 5.1 rating on the CPU isn't very useful. My two i7 8086k have different quality chips—one is solid and the other is top-notch. The one with 5.1 performs identically to the one that's overclocked to 5GHz. My EVGA SC2 1080 Ti isn't great at overclocking, but I set the power limit high and it usually hits around 107% with a clock boost of +50 and memory boost of +400. If you like those settings, it works fine. I played the game on ultra wide with similar frame rates, and the outdoor view looks better that way. This is my method for pushing GPU speeds with Heaven. The EVGA 1080 Ti even fails at plus 60, but it might handle more memory if tuned right.

I just wrapped up the game. Played on GTX 1080 FTW @ 1923 MHz with these configurations. Rarely fell below 60; dropped to 57 at Rhodes campsite but stayed solid above 60, reaching up to 83 fps. The in-game test pushes GPU more than any real playthrough. Got around 36 minutes or so, though actual gameplay never hit the lows. A mix of ultra, medium, and high settings. Settings 1, 2, 3 This title is quite GPU constrained. Your CPU should handle it just fine. Edit: Just noticed you’d like to try 1440p. I played at 1080p.
