In recent days I've spent more time playing Grand Theft Auto. It took me several sessions (5-6 hours) to understand the controls, story flow, and map design, but now I'm about halfway through (31% complete). Usually I prefer more linear experiences, which made my transition longer. I feel a bit disengaged from the game. It seems to consist of many small challenges mixed with a complex gangster/mob narrative. The driving around towns and causing chaos keeps things interesting, and some missions are enjoyable. However, certain tasks feel repetitive or forced, like being directed to watch a cut-scene before moving on, only to leave after stealing another car because nearby characters abandoned the scene. It appears the game jumps abruptly from one location to another without much transition. Besides the main story elements, there are many other icons, but most are just points of interest such as barbershops or shops. I haven’t discovered much beyond the narrative to add depth. I’m curious if others share this impression or have suggestions to improve my experience. I’m thinking about taking a break from GTA to focus on Assassin's Creed Syndicate, which is the first game in that series I’ve tried so far—just three hours in.

I fully understand your perspective. Most of the missions I’d like to avoid unless they require action would be easier to skip. In my view, they improve more as you progress through the game.

Just Cause 3 offers a more compelling narrative compared to GTA, yet delivers superior gameplay mechanics—just remember not to drive too fast. For those who enjoy creative chaos, JC3 is the perfect choice.

I enjoy engaging narratives, which is why I favor linear experiences. Side missions often take my attention away from the main story, allowing me to relax and forget about details. Still, I’m open to open-world titles—especially since I’ve invested a lot in GTA and want to see more of Syndicate. However, I doubt I’ll pick up Just Cause 3. I already have several games in my Steam library that I’d like to try first.

The visuals look great to me. I own a 980ti and a 6700k with 1080p resolution. I probably wouldn’t want its performance at 1440p, especially since I was thinking about getting a 4k TV but ended up holding back due to occasional slowdowns with my current setup.

You're experiencing performance issues at 1080p? That's surprising since it seems to ruin the experience at 1440p. Maybe adding a lot of anti-aliasing isn't necessary for sharp images at 1440p. 4K demands are much higher, and the GTX 980ti is built for 1440p gaming. GTA 5's advanced graphics settings won't alter what's actually rendered but will drastically lower your frame rate—be mindful of that. Some games have settings that can't be enabled, and keeping grass quality high will further strain performance without any visible benefit.

Anti-aliasing is a solid choice. Higher resolutions usually don’t require it much, if at all. I rarely use Steam’s frame-rate counter or background hardware monitors, but sometimes it can cause stuttering. I’d need to pay closer attention to spot the issues. It’s similar to the FPS counter—rarely seen. Maybe I’m being too strict—could be a case of it. When you played GTA5, did you finish all the side quests?

The previous update included some details you might want to know. In GTA 5, I mainly focused on the story, but I’ve played online for a while now—definitely worth trying if you’re interested. It’s an enjoyable experience when played online.

I really liked my extra playthroughs of the single-player campaign. The only mission I find annoying is the repetitive one at the docks operating the cranes.
