Pc
Ryzen 5 3600x
Sapphire 5700xt nitro plus
Asus b450f gaming motherboard
32gb ddr4 3600mghz ram
750 psu
4tb HDD
250gb WD m.2 drive for os
I’m attempting to add a second m.2 drive in the second slot on the motherboard. In BIOS it recognizes it, but the OS won’t boot. When I remove the new drive, it starts up normally. I think it’s related to the PCIe lanes and SATA, though I’m still confused. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Also, what options exist for upgrading storage if a solution isn't available? The HDD is becoming outdated, and I'm considering an upgrade.

Using a drive in an M.2 port can turn off one or more SATA connections on the motherboard.
ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING | Motherboards | ROG Global
ASUS ROG Strix B450-F Gaming Motherboard - Top performance: 2nd gen AMD processors, 5-Way Optimization, Fan Xpert 4, Aura Sync. POWER.
rog.asus.com
When the M.2_1 Socket 3 is in SATA or PCIE mode, SATA6G_5/6 ports will be turned off.
The solution might just involve relocating your HDD cable to another port on the board.

You should consider which option is best for your setup.

I have relocated it, but now I'm encountering a black screen with white light on the motherboard showing VGA.

Restore the system to its initial state.
Use existing ports and exclude the new drive.
Functions correctly? Share a screenshot of the Disk Management window if needed.
