Hey everyone, I’ve assembled a fresh PC setup. The new motherboard is Gigabyte ga-x58a-ud3r, paired with an Xeon X5675 processor. I’m running an old RX 470 8GB, a Corsair CX550M, and a Samsung SSD with Windows 10—everything functioned well in my previous system. I experimented with switching from IDE to AHCI, set the SSD as boot drive, enabled quick boot, turned off secondary drives, and reset the case status to “no.” There’s also an issue with the RAM: I tried HyperX Fury 1600MHz 1.5V and Patriot 1600MHz 1.5V, but both failed to boot, and the red LED near the RAM kept flashing. The most puzzling part is the BIOS—despite having Patriot RAM in my old PC, it’s set to 1333MHz 1.5V as default. I’ve swapped both chips in my previous machine, so they should work now. This is quite a handful of odd hardware behavior. Now focusing on the boot problem: I attached some images. The PC sometimes boots and then pauses, showing a split-second list of drives before freezing into a verification mode. Occasionally it lists hardware and says “verifying DMI Pool Data… update success.” When I press F12 and select the SSD, it tries to verify DMI pool data but fails. The BIOS logo flickers and then displays a screen with options for recording a video or taking a screenshot—needed for documentation. Edit: I also tried a Seagate Barracuda with Windows 10, which got stuck in the same verification step.
Open to the idea that the board is faulty. Checking the DMI pool means confirming the BIOS contains all hardware details needed before Windows boots. This is typical and acceptable. The boot screen appears corrupted by the BIOS. You might attempt to flash the BIOS to a newer version. That’s the only thing I’ve considered so far. GL
I sent a refund from the seller on eBay. The item I got didn’t match the description—specifically rev 1.0 instead of 2.0. I’m hoping to get my money back since I’ve located a cheaper LG1366 board nearby, though it’s not as good.
Located an USB drive on the old Volvo and attempted to create an installation media. I want to check if it can start Windows from the SSD after installation.
