Boot error

I own an MSI Z97s Sli Krait edition. Initially, I encountered a boot error saying "reboot and select proper boot device" after switching my boot drive to a new SSD. Fixing it proved difficult, so I restored my BIOS settings back to defaults through the BIOS menu. Once that was done, the PC wouldn’t power on and there was no electricity reaching the keyboard or mouse, though the fans were still running. I attempted various solutions—resetting CMOS, removing hardware, resetting the CPU—but nothing resolved the issue. Recently, with my new graphics card (RX 5700 XT Red Dragon), the problem persists even when the card isn’t connected. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

No, I didn't install Windows on the new SSD.

I used a partition to move my OS onto my SSD. It seems I didn’t install Windows on the new drive. I’m not very familiar with this process, as it’s my first attempt. I can access the BIOS and set my old hard drive as the boot device, but the error persists. Also, the partition functioned initially, then I deleted the newly created volumes and reset everything—no questions asked...

It seems there might have been an issue with the original setup while attempting to relocate it. I recommend creating a Windows installation thumb drive and trying to restore the original installation with the SSD disconnected. Once that's resolved, you can reinstall Windows properly on the SSD and transfer your files and games.

Windows wasn't turned on, so it lets you start over. I'm hoping this is the issue.

Turn off the SSD, access the BIOS, and choose the original drive. If the issue persists, reinstall it.

Restart Windows on the new drive might resolve the problem. It seems you might have a corrupted file somewhere.

The majority agrees, which is comforting. I'm restoring it again using a thumb drive. Appreciate the support.

The setup is working, but connecting the GPU causes issues with powering on the keyboard and mouse. Could be a power supply issue since the unit has a 550W rating.

Could it have functioned prior using the GPU?
