Boot drive
Boot drive
I possess a hard drive from a previous machine (February 2014) running Windows 8 with all my saved game files. I'm planning to upgrade and wanted to know if I can use this drive for storage and as the boot device. The other system has an i7 3770, while my new rig features an i7 4790k.
You could face problems because your new PC uses a different motherboard.
You might need to move the files you wish to retain onto another storage device (such as a USB drive if it fits), then format that drive and set up Windows there. You’ll likely face problems starting the installation again, just like Aniall mentioned earlier.
