I'm setting up a new PC and need a boot disk for installing Windows 8.1 Industry Pro. I'm downloading the OS from Dreamspark, but I'm not sure if that affects the process. I was wondering how to format an 8GB flash drive as a bootable USB (likely USB 2.0) for installation. Thanks!

install rufus.exe, open the app, choose your USB drive as the boot device—your 8GB USB—and pick the ISO file to write. You may also prepare your USB beforehand or use rufus directly.

In your file explorer, right-click the USB stick and select format. A small window will appear with various options. Choose fat32, set the default allocation size (it doesn’t matter much), assign a name if desired, though Rufus will rename it automatically when you burn the image.
